Book direct with the owner
When you book a stay at our cottage, you are booking direct with the owners. So we are here to answer any questions you have and we can give you the low down on what to do in the area and the best places to visit. So instead of booking through agents like Sykes Cottages, Airbnb, Tripadvisor, Homeaway or Booking.com, book direct with the owners and save yourself agency fees.
Book with confidence
While we are genuine owners, you do read scare stories in the press regarding scams with people booking non-existent holiday lets. So we understand you may be nervous about booking a holiday direct. If you want to discuss anything with us we are happy to chat on the phone (we can give you a landline number to call rather than a mobile number) and answer any questions you have about the cottage, the area and the booking process. And if you are wondering who we are and who you are booking with, you can read a bit more about us and why we bought the cottage.
Booking information and what is included in the rental
Frequently asked questions
Here are answers to questions we are commonly asked about the cottage (phone signal, key pickup etc).
Can I take my dog?
Sorry, no pets allowed. We have sheep in the field right next to us and the fence surrounding us is not really dog proof.
Smoking
The cottage is strictly a non-smoking property.
Is central heating and electricity included?
Yes electricity and oil heating are included. We supply the first basket of logs and a supply kindling for the log burner. Additional bags of wood and kindling can be purchased locally.
What are the arrival and departure times?
Rentals normally start at 4pm on the day of arrival and end at 10:30am on the day of departure.
Are bedding, towels etc included?
Bedding, bath towels and tea towels are included. However, please bring your own beach towels. Our towels are for use in the cottage only. We do not supply bedding for the cot.
Cleaning
We clean the cottage between bookings. However, we ask that when you leave, you return the cottage to the state and cleanliness in which you found it when you arrived. This helps us keep our rates low which benefits all our guests.
Small children
The garden is enclosed, but has a gate that little hands could open. If you have kids, please use your discretion if you are leaving them unattended in the garden. If you need stair gates, then please bring them. If they are playing in the paddock at the back, then be aware that a footpath runs through the paddock. It is hardly ever used, but has access over stiles onto other land.
Payment
We will need a deposit of 30% of the holiday cost to secure the booking. The balance to be paid 6 weeks before the start of the rental. If you are booking within 6 weeks of the rental starting, payment is required in full at the time the booking is made.
Security deposit
A refundable security deposit is payable and is due within six weeks of the rental commencing (or upon booking if the rental starts within 6 weeks or less) and this will be returned within two weeks after the end of your rental period (minus any costs for damages, breakages or additional cleaning costs etc).
