Local shops and produce
When staying at the cottage we always try to buy produce locally. McArdle’s in Chirk is a highly recommended award winning butcher and right over the road is a great green grocer. Llangollen also has a good range of local shops including a butcher, green grocer and delicatessen. You will often see small holdings in the area selling local eggs and vegetables and they are worth buying when you see them available.
There are supermarkets within a 25 – 30 minute drive in Oswestry. If you end up in any of the larger villages such as Llanrhaeadr or Llanfyllin you will normally find a SPAR – but what they sell does vary. You will also find a couple of small supermarkets in Chirk. Bala also has a good range of shops. If possible, try to use the local shops, butchers etc as they sell great produce. It is possible to get online food deliveries to the cottage from Sainsbury’s (but please check the current situation as things change).
